Premedicine
The premedicine concentration admits postbaccalaureate students
seeking the laboratory science courses in biology, general
and organic chemistry, and physics required for application
to most medical schools and related professional schools.
This concentration offers 12 courses scheduled as lectures
on weeknights and Saturday laboratories in the fall, winter,
and spring quarters on the Evanston campus ( Review
Sample Course Plan ). SCS students typically enroll in
two courses per term, each with a laboratory, and should expect
to complete the program in a total of six quarters or 21 months.
Students in the premedicine concentration may accelerate
their schedule by enrolling in intensive Summer Session courses
(CHEM 101, 102, 103, and PHYSICS 130-1,2,3), with the expectation
of completing all courses in 12 to 15 months. The Summer Session
courses require full-time study. (Please note that the Summer
Session intensive biology sequence is not a substitute for
the SCS biology sequence.)
While this program meets minimal requirements for application to medical and related schools, students are strongly advised determine the admission requirements of the medical schools in which they are interested before enrolling to ensure that the SCS program fulfills their requirements.
