Chicago Studies
The interdisciplinary array of courses in this certificate
program offers both a historical and contemporary look at
what makes Chicago a true world-class city. Follow Chicago's
rapid growth from a remote, swampy outpost to a thriving
commercial metropolis and cultural mecca. Take an in-depth
look at immigration and neighborhood settlements and the
political, economic, and social circumstances that helped
shape the city. Explore the architecture of Daniel Burnham,
Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe
in illustrated lectures and field trips. Learn about Chicago's
extraordinary art, music, literature, and theatre offerings.
These courses should have great appeal for anyone who wants
to learn more about Chicago and for those who have an appreciation
of its rich history and culture. Evening courses at the School of Continuing Studies are held
on Northwestern's Chicago and Evanston campuses.
