Professional Communication in American English ESL_PROF 111-0
This course is intended to increase the English proficiency of students in a variety of workplace environments. An integrated approach is taken to increase spoken, listening, and written skills so students will feel comfortable using English in both formal (e.g., presentations and conferences) and informal (e.g., entertaining clients) professional communication.
Students will receive special training in attending to and producing the sounds and rhythms of American English. Each offering of the course will address multiple topics in pronunciation, with an additional emphasis on one of a set of skills that are particularly difficult for English language learners: intonation, linking, word stress, and articulation. Course materials include authentic business sources and terminology. Instructors partner with students to create customized vocabulary and phrases relevant to each student's workplace.
