Residential Landscape Design and Management Professional Development Program
Developed in response to the growing interest
in the field of landscape design, this certificate program
offers students the opportunity to
develop or refine skills in residential design, graphic presentation
and practical horticulture science. Through lectures, studio
projects, and field trips, students will gain the practical,
real-world skills that employers seek.
The program prepares students to develop techniques and ideas for landscape design, and it teaches them how to work with clients for residential landscaping projects, from developing a landscape design for a front yard to more complex terrains.
Certificate:
Northwestern University's School of Continuing Studies
offers a Certificate of Completion in Residential Landscape
Design and Management to those students
who complete the required coursework.
Program Requirements:
Students entering the program in 2007– 2008 must
complete all five required courses and two electives for
a
total of seven courses to obtain a Certificate of Completion
from Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies.

Interested students can also enroll in individual courses.
Leading organizations such as the Illinois
Nurserymen's Association (INA), the Association
of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), and the Illinois
Landscape Contractors Association (ILCA) have reviewed
the curriculum and award continuing education credit to these
courses.
Program Audience
This program is designed for professionals working in all
sectors of the green industry, including nursery personnel,
arborists, landscape contractors, landscape designers, retail
sales persons and those interested in pursuing careers in
any of these areas.
Whether you are planning a career change or advancing your
career options, this certificate offers the relevance and
rigor necessary to increase your knowledge and skill level
in the green industry. Courses are taught by industry professionals
in settings that allow for individualized attention.
