Program Audience

Northwestern University's School of Continuing Studies (SCS), in cooperation with the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), offers a program of advanced instruction for experienced business professionals looking to advance in treasury related positions. To qualify, candidates must have two years of experience in a full-time, cash management-related position, or the equivalent educational or teaching background. The program is designed for individuals seeking to broaden their knowledge and skills in the area of treasury and cash management, and those who want to successfully prepare for the the Certified Treasury Professional certification exam.

Learning Outcomes

The CTP exam covers 16 areas including credit and accounts receivable management, short-term investments, electronic commerce, financial risk management and relationship management. Using printed AFP Learning System materials and extensive web-based testing components, students of this program will learn to:

  • Utilize corporate cash more efficiently
  • Establish systems that reduce non-earning cash balances while providing adequate liquidity
  • Monitor and control exposure to interest rate risk and foreign exchange risk
  • Implement technology applications that streamline the treasury management process
  • Understand how external variables impact treasury management

Students who successfully complete the 36-hour course will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies. The AFP also awards continuing education units. To earn full certification, students must pass the national CTP exam.

Students interested in an introduction in the concepts taught in the CTP program are encouraged to enroll in Northwestern's new weekend Cash Management Fundamentals course.
