New for 2005-2006
Additional Student Services for Professional
Health Careers PDP Students
Increased funding for the NUPP
student group
The NUPP (Northwestern University Prehealth Professionals)
has been instrumental in supporting the development of community
among students; this group has also offered an interesting
array of academic and career workshops. In 2005–2006
the funding will be doubled to provide more support for such
opportunities.
Mentor Matching
During the upcoming academic year the SCS staff will work
with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and NUPP to develop
a pilot program that will allow an admitted Professional Health
Careers student to be matched with a mentor who has relevant
professional background (in medicine, physical therapy, or
psychology). This opportunity will provide students with a
real-world perspective as a part of their educational experience.
Scholarships
For the 2005–06 academic year, SCS will provide up to
$10,000 in scholarship support for students who enrolled in
the Professional Health Careers program in spring 2005 or
earlier. Scholarships will be awarded to waive the cost and
fees for one course. Click here for scholarship
guidelines (PDF Format) and for
the application click here (PDF Format).
Expanded Recommendation File
Service
The Recommendation File Service will be expanded by including
a "synthesis letter," which will summarize the letters
in the file. This service will be available for students who
have been admitted to the PDP program and who apply to medical
school during the 2005–2006 academic year.
Expanded Advising Services
By utilizing graduate student interns, Carolyn Feller will
be more readily available to provide students with additional
opportunities to meet and assist them with career, academic,
and other concerns.
