Internet and E-mail Accounts

During the time students are affiliated with Northwestern University, they will use many electronic services. E-mail, viewing online transcripts, and communicating with friends and faculty via e-mail are a few of these electronic services. To offer these services in a secure fashion, we will issue you a network identifier (NetID) and a password. Whenever an online system wishes to authenticate access to personal records or services, students will be asked to provide their NetID and current password. In order to obtain a NetID, students will need to present a WildCARD [their student ID] or a valid photo ID at a University Information Technology Help Desk**, which will give access to student records, e-mail, Voyager (the University Library's online catalog), and the Internet. Even if students already have an e-mail account they will need a NU NetID to gain access to student records and to some of the University's library resources.

**In Evanston students should go to the NUIT Support Center in Kresge Hall, 1880 Campus Drive, Rm. 1-435; 847-491-HELP(4357). In Chicago students should go to the NUIT Support office in Abbott Hall for password changes on Mondays and Thursdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., 710 N. Lake Shore Dr., Suite 600; 847-491-HELP(4357). Details about IT Services during the start of school can be found at www.it.northwestern.edu/students.
