This course will be held in Parkes Hall room 213.
This course is an introduction to the study and analysis of theatrical representations of the 20th Century black aesthetic. Our readings will consist of a selection of plays that address a number of themes, including: migration, cultural practices and transformation, economic exploitation, family relationships, racism and sexism. Selections include: Pearl Cleage's Flyin' West, August Wilson's Fences and The Piano Lesson, and other plays.
