How to Register

The registration period for all Summer Session 2008 courses begins April 14 and ends June 21. Students should register as early as possible to reserve a place in the courses of their choice. Late registration week is June 23-27. The first day of classes for Summer Session 2008 is Monday, June 23. To register for any other programs, including summer institutes, please visit the special programs page.

Student Status

Registration procedures differ depending on student status. The three types of students who attend Northwestern's Summer Session are Northwestern day-school students, SCS students, and visiting students. By following the appropriate links below, you will be able to register for classes, and find out more about late registration, auditing classes, credits and grades, transcripts, tuition and fees, adding or dropping courses, and refunds.

Visiting Students Registration begins April 14th! Registration forms can be downloaded beginning in April. Tuition information for Visiting Students can be found here.

  • Students from other colleges and universities
  • Teachers and professional educators
  • Non-Northwestern students who are taking courses for personal enrichment
  • Non-Northwestern international students
  • Former Northwestern students
  • High school graduates not admitted to Northwestern for fall quarter 2008. (Note: Current high school students may not take classes unless they are accepted into Northwestern's College Preparation or Bridge Programs.)

School of Continuing Studies Students Registration begins April 14! Tuition information for SCS can be found here.

  • Students who were enrolled in SCS during the 2007 - 08 year or who file a letter of intent to pursue a degree beyond Summer Session. SCS students are not degree candidates in any other school within the University.
  • Northwestern employees who are eligible for reduced-tuition benefits

  • Continuing Northwestern University graduate or undergraduate day-school students who were registered in spring quarter 2008

Late Registration

Late registration is held during the first week of Summer Session, June 23 - 27. Visiting students who register during this period incur a nonrefundable late fee of $50 in addition to any other fees. SCS students who register during this period incur a nonrefundable late fee of $75. See the registration information for your student type for registration times and locations.

Students may register from April 14 through June 21 without a penalty; please register by mail, fax, or online depending on your student type above. The following offices are available for assistance:
