Types of Admission
Students who apply for admission to the undergraduate SCS degree program may be offered admission in one of two ways:
Transfer Admission
Students who have recently completed college-level study at an accredited community college or four-year institution may qualify for transfer admission.
To be admitted as a transfer student, applicants must have:
- Minimum 24 semester hours of transferable coursework completed in the past 10 years
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Successful completion of transferable coursework in humanities, social sciences, business, communication studies and the sciences
- Successfully completion of an English composition course at another institution
Performance-Based Admission
Students may qualify for performance-based admission (PBA) if they have never studied at the college level before or if they do not qualify for transfer admission.
Students who qualify for PBA will have the opportunity to complete four courses at SCS. Successful completion of these four courses allows PBA students to continue pursuing their SCS degree. Students may only register for one or two courses per quarter while completing performance-based admission requirements.
To successfully complete PBA requirements, students must:
- Achieve at least a B average in four performance-based admission courses
- Complete English 110, 111, or 205 (one Writing Requirement course) or successfully petition for a waiver of the writing requirement
- The four courses must include course work in the humanities, social sciences, business, communication studies, or the sciences, and no more than two courses may be taken from the same area.
Once a student completes PBA requirements, any credits earned at other colleges or universities may be transferred into SCS.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
All SCS students who are admitted to a degree program through performance-based or transfer admission are eligible to apply for state or federal financial aid, including loans. SCS scholarships are also available for competitive applicants who are offered transfer admission.
