Drops

Students may drop from a course at any time during the drop period using CAESAR. You may drop a class with academic penalty (no tuition adjustment):

  • Fall: November 10, 2008
  • Winter: February 21, 2009
  • Spring: May 16, 2009

You may drop a class without academic penalty (no tuition adjustment):

  • Fall: November 3, 2008
  • Winter: February 13, 2009
  • Spring: May 8, 2009

Students who drop courses may be eligible for a tuition refund, less any nonrefundable fees and deposits. The tuition refund will be applied as of the date the drop was performed on CAESAR.

Withdrawals

Students who would like to withdraw from them, even if it is their only course must complete and sign a Change of Registration Form and have that form countersigned by an SCS staff member. Or, write a letter to the SCS Registrar’s Office citing the reason for withdrawal. The letter should also include a Student ID. Address the letter to:

Registrar
School of Continuing Studies
Northwestern University
339 E. Chicago Ave.
Wieboldt Hall, 6th Floor
Chicago, IL 60611-3008

Students may fax the letter; however, it is their responsibility to confirm by telephone that the faxed letter has been received in the School of Continuing Studies office. The fax number is 312-503-4727. The telephone number is 312-503-6950.

Simply notifying your instructor or ceasing to attend class does not constitute an official withdrawal. A student who fails to officially withdraw will receive a grade of X (unauthorized withdrawal) for the course, which will be entered on the student’s permanent record and computed as a Zero in the GPA. A student enrolled in an undergraduate course may not withdraw from the course after the 10th class session.
